No, they won't crawl under the car and look, but they ALWAYS ask.

When was the last time you asked them? See my post above - less than a year ago I was told they would, so I sent it in, only to be told that they had quit doing it.

Dear SFI Flexplate Committee & Others,

On January 22, 2010 a proposed change to SFI Specifications 29.1, 29.2 and 29.3 for Automatic Transmission Flexplates was APPROVED by the committee of participating manufacturers via mail ballot. Next, the proposal will be submitted to the SFI Board of Directors for Final Approval. As a reminder, the proposal consists of the following change:

Delete wording in Paragraph 2.3: “Flexplates shall be inspected every three years by the manufacturer for recertification. When a unit is determined to be acceptable for continued service, a new conformance label marked with the inspection date shall be used.”

Add new wording in Paragraph 2.3: “The useful life of the Flexplate shall not exceed three years and must be replaced at or before that time.”

That's interesting. Mine was a standard externally balanced BBC flexplate.

After the catastrophic flexplate failures this past year (which I think were actually within their original cert periods), I'm not surprised to see this changed (per the above SFI info).
