Make sure the Float is set properly
Make sure the Needle & Seat are in good / usable condition Make sure the Seat Is Tight (yes, I have seen these loosen & start to back themselves out) Verify Proper Fuel Pressure

Is it really smoke?? Could it be fuel vapor coming back up from an open intake valve?

most of the time its fuel vapor. left over gas in intake. if anything is leaking look down carb with flashlight you should see boosters dripping if seats/floats are leaking
