Not to start an argument or anything, but could somebody post the first runs by a Pro Stock in the 9's, 8's, and 7's please.

No match race stuff please, NHRA legal setups.

It seems to me that back in the day I read that WJ was the first try the "automatic" shifter transmission but I'm old and the memory ain't what it never was!

I'm sure someone will correct me,, but at the '70 Winternationals,, the first Pro Stock show at a NHRA national event, Bill Jenkins' Camaro went I believe, a 9.98, while Sox and everyone else was still in the 10s,,, as far as 8s go,, Glidden was in his prime, so maybe he did it, and if I recall correctly, the first 7 came after the rules change, to the current setup, 500 c.i. at 2300lbs?,, and I think Frank Iaconio was the first. I'm just going off the top of my head, no research attempted. I'm sure theres a list somewhere.

Question Re: 70's & 80's Pro Stockers

Does anybody have pictures from the early 70's of the pro/stockers in the NW, Bob Lambeck, Rob Robinson, Robin Whitcomb,Ron Henderson, Pete Kost, and I'm sure there are others i can't think of in action, also there was the Riddler cars of the Colletti's that where stock and super stock and didn't The Ron Tonkin run a drag race team also?

Search this forum for Riddler and you will find several topics/pictures about those cars.

There are photos of that Don Carlton Dart in the photos that I received from Stewart Pomeroy.. I think the commentary about the "yellow car" is talking about that Dart - for sure the yellow car was a Dart.

Of course the only difference between a Dart and a Duster is the tail panel and grille ...

Great Lakes Dragaway - Union Grove, WI where it all began for me. Broadway Bob Metzler used to draw the biggest names in the sport of drag racing into his track year upon year and I feel very fortunate to have witnessed a lot of it first hand.
