I believe this to be Larry Griffith driving a Dart owned by Lee Smith at Byron Dragway.

Shirley Shahan 'Drag-On-Lady'

One the most popular and fan favorites at the Drag Strip.

Unfortunately, Shirley and her SS/BA 'Hemi Dart' were put on the Truck early at most Points Meets, Divisional Races and Major Events.

Shirley made her money as a 'Match Racer' during 1968 and
early-1969.

Larry Cooper ~ 'The Hustler'

Larry who was out of Monroe, Louisiana > was the SS/BA 'National Record Holder' in May 1968.

His 'Hemi Dart' flew like a Southern Banshee.

bigsixman & daryl: the magazine that the picture of the silver dart and ed miller's cuda was in is a special edition, hot rod collector's archives series magazine from winter 2005. david freiburger wrote the editors letter so you may want to touch base with him. but be warned, the preface says the magazine "includes JUST A FEW previously published photos and press released images as well as a number of never before seen shots". the picture is on page 73 in the "special super stock hemi dart and cuda section" with 53 different pictures. if my attempt to post a picture of the cover fails, daryl you can email me and i'll send the picture to you. you should have my address from when i sent you the pictures from the cinncinnati hemi reunion. hemidart3, dave

Thanx Dave. I have that one, but I'm looking for the magazine where that pic was originally published in. I don't know where it came from previous to that

Daryl: that's why I capitalized the "just a few", I read that to mean that the majority of pictures were never publicized before, hench the you may want to try checking with David Freiburg. Hope you find something.

Craig, Don't know for sure if that pic. was a first time show in the above magazine in 2005? I thought I remember seeing it elsewhere previous to this tho.

The 'now famous' photo of the 'Manhattan Speed Shop' LO23 'SS/BA' Hemi Dart
matched up with Ed Miller's BO29 'SS/B' Hemi Barracuda.

That 'photo' was taken on Sunday ~ July 21, 1968 at New York National
Speedway {Center Moriches, Long Island, New York}.

The host track for the '1968 Super Stock Magazine Nationals'.

That race was during the 2nd Round of 'Super Stock Eliminations'.

Result

Pete M****** was running his Hemi Dart in 'SS/BA', and was running off an 11.10 'Dial-In'
.
Ed Miller was running his Hemi Barracuda in 'SS/B', and was running off a 10.76 'Dial-In'.

Pete, working off a {.34 handicap}, caught a 'good light' and jumped out to a nice lead.

Ed Miller was 'late at the lights', and was forced to push his 'Barracuda' all-out to make up ground.

Ed just caught Pete at 'The Traps.

Ed ran a 'winning' 10.77, with only {.02 to spare} before 'breaking out'.

Pete ran a 'near upset win' with an 11.20, as the Hemi Dart had a 'slight'
fuel sputter on Top End, which cost him the Race.

That photo appeared in 'Speed and Supercar' Magazine {December 1968}.

Thanx for that once again Paul. Do you know who the first round opponent was at that race?.
