WOW..

After you get this done Billy....for under a $1000...

Ain't happening, Dan! Though I would never discourage anybody from setting a National Record, I've been there and done that and until NHRA decides to reward me for doing so (which they should), I don't need the EGO boost. A piece of paper and my name in the back of Dragster(so small that you need a magnifying glass to see it) just isn't reward enough. Besides, the person who wins class at Indy should be the Record Holder because that person is the "hitter" in the class.

Dan, just for the (National) Record, if I were starting with a clean sheet, I would be building an "Under The Index for Under a Grand" using some kind of FFFord with a 302 2V in it. That could easily be an "Under the Record for Under 5 Grand" build.

Billy, I wonder what would happen if NHRA would reduce power factors on '70s 2-bbl engines of ALL manufacturers to the OEM hp rating? Since the majority of racers are GM fans, there has not been the mad rush to the 302 2-bbl combos like I thought there would be, but I will not comment more about that. There were as many '86 Chevy trucks built as 302 2-bbl Fords, if that is a statistic to ponder.

Of course, with NHRA's worshipping of the AHFS, something like that would never happen. Where's the fun?

Dwight, this sounds like a good subject for it's own thread. I think that you have an excellent idea there for helping "underprivileged" and "entry level" racers get going. NHRA would have to rework it's AHFS to make it more reactive to the combos that wind up being accidently too soft though. A year between reviews is too long.

Should anybody oppose such an idea?

Good Point !
My Pure Stocker is always in development.
Just never set a Record so it would be a goal for me.

Have an opportunity to set 1/4 F/PS since it is wide open.
Just in D1 will have to be under hot weather conditions.

Got a nice Featherlight trailer and stopped driving to the races.
Now can tear down and make it back home.

Fixed up the 94 Caprice wagon to tow everything.
New trans, beefed up rear suspension, gears.
Installed a rear sway bar and for its weight will do well in Autocross.

Good to build a competitive racer for under a $1000.

Seems you cannot tow safely for "under" A LOT of money.
