Very cool video! I can`t imagine that any NHRA dragstrips still have a grass strip between the lanes anymore. (or steel Armco guardrails). I imagine things could get ugly pretty quickly if a car got loose at 130 MPH and crossed a grass "centerline"!

I had never been to a track with grass in the center. Still haven't. I was really surprised when we got there. I wonder if it is still like that today?

The track was replaced by a high school back in the 90ties. Thankfully Ed Swearingen built the Reynolds, Ga track about that time to fill the void. The dirt in the center of the track was sometimes good for entertainment, if a car go into the dirt there was always a really big cloud of dust for while.
Warner Robbins hosted NHRA Divisionals from 1967 thru 1990 or so. Jimmy Parker |
