Default Remote Transmission Cooler

Do any of you guys run a fan-type Remote Transmission Cooler? If so, What Brand and Part Number?

I have a Rossler TH400 with a Chance 5500 RPM 9" Converter. 1970 442 Car weighs approx. 3500 lbs.

I've spoken:confused to Derale and they only gave me "1" Option; their # 65861....They said I need to run this Cooler and that's it.....no other choices. I would try to go with this Cooler, but it is 8-1/2" tall!...Having a tough time of finding a way to mount it under the rear of the Car, without it "hanging down" too low.

Any thoughts/recommendations would be appreciated.

They are trying to sell you the King Kong of trans coolers at $450 bucks. That is a 750 cfm fan in that thing. They make several remote coolers that have 450 cfm fans for under $200. They are all less than 5 inches thick and should do you fine. The C4 on my Mustang runs hot. I have a 10 by 12 thin fin thing with an 8 inch 400 cfm fan behind it between the grill and radiator. Works fine.

If the smaller remote won't cool enough you can use long round finned coolers as connectors. The only real difference is a remote is sealed up good to be used flat. They are all closed systems. If not, someone will let you know.

I don't understand a need for a trans cooler. I run 3 classes with mine in late rounds (when I'm lucky) and I don't have a cooler. I've never seen over 200 degree trans temps. I changed my fluid at the end of last season after two years and the fluid looked like it did when I put it in.

Darrel is correct, you need to monitor trans temperature for consistency sake so run a good braided bypass loop and you’ll have one less thing to possibly go wrong. I carry a very compact leaf blower just in case.

The most "cooler" I ever used on a drag car trans was a deep pan that had tubing running through it.

Only thing I ever used (or needed) was an aluminum heat sink style cooler with removable ends so you could clean it out if needed.

That cooler is a waste of money and all the input from others is exactly what we ran in a 9 second 3300 lb super stocker.
