I've been in this buissnes for 15 years our company 28 years, our IRs are custom built for us, we know all there is to know about them. They are tested and checked at the start of events but unless you can come up with something that replicates the vibration and harmonics of a car on the convertor at 5000+ RPM, we probably allready have it.

Jeff, all those years of experience is good for one thing The Experience. If something new needs to be done to level the playing field for everyone lets try something new. Do Not Defend Something Just Because It Has Always Been Done That Way!!!!

Maybe mounting them on on something like this to test them could replicate close to what your asking for? ![]() |

I wasn't trying to fault anything you have been doing.....I just thought maybe the manufacturer might have a piece of test equipment that measured the speed and repeatability of the eye....but in place at the track...
this situation rarely happens...but in the case @ Joliet...it sounds like its been there for a while....surely you checked the eyes there and they passed your procedure....otherwise you would have changed them.... maybe we can provide you with a car when you check them to simulate some vibration....I'd sign up for a morning....I'm sure we could get enough volenteers.... We all know Compulink is the finest....but if we can help to make it better...we are all interested... Just so you know where were coming from..... When we spend what we do to do this "Hobby"...and travel x amount of miles....and can't cut 2 lights within 4 hundreds of each other....because something might be failing on the timing system.... makes us unhappy... So if we can help in any way....to make the system better ....let us know....there are all kinds of characters on this site....engineers to floor sweepers ...I'm sure...maybe somebody can help.... I was not, as stayted "Do Not Defend Something Just Because It Has Always Been Done That Way!!!!"
I was just statting we work with the manufacture of our IR sensors to develop and have them custom built, they arent off the shelf units. We have all equipment available to test them, but things change with the harmonics of the cars that cant be seen in the testing. |

Thanks again for taking the time to respond to my questions. You have a tough job and I would not to be in your shoes when there are problems. Hopefully in the future with some cooperation between the racers and track management we can work through some of these timing issues. Hope you and everyone else had a beautifull and safe 4th of July. Bighead |
