GOODYEAR Date Codes ????
Does anyone know how to decipher the date code on Goodyear's slicks ???? We bought new ones and they appear to be very old.
Date Code: MB01 Thanks in advance...

Re: GOODYEAR Date Codes ????
Mike,
I spent 13 years with Goodyear but I have been several years gone from them now. If I remember right, MB is the code for the Akron plant, which is where the race tires were made, and 01 would be for 2001. If they had been Chile tires, they would not have had the M... M was for North American plants. If this is right, and tires were stored correctly, out of sun and away from electric motors and heat, they might be OK. Would be a little harder than normal, but might work. Goodyear racing web site has some contact numbers. Might take a few calls, but you should be able to get in touch with one of the race team engineers in the drag race team, that can confirm the code and dates. Good luck, Ken |

Re: GOODYEAR Date Codes ????
Mike, We went through this problem in Topeka. We had the Goodyear engineer look it up. It wasn't as easy as 01 for 2001, he had to skim through a book to find it. Wait till Tuesday and give them a call. It will tell you the month and year it was made.

Re: GOODYEAR Date Codes ????
Thanks for update Greg. As I said, its been several years. The engineers would be the best bet.
There was two different code plates on the passenger tires. One will give you the plant and year and the other will give you a lot more. It will actually show what week it was made (1-52), year and what mold. I never worked in the race tire plant, and not sure what changes have happened in last 10 years. Good luck Mike, Ken |

Maybe the last four digits in the serial number. Not sure though. Larry Hodge would know.

Re: GOODYEAR Date Codes ????
Thanks guys for the info. All we know is, at Denver, The car never hooked. From what dad told me, they never got "sticky", and usually, they pick up a bunch of rocks. These don't.
