Dennis,
The only aluminum hoods for second gen. Firebirds were for 1980-81 Turbo 301 cars. Nothing aluminum in a shaker hood. Hope this helps you feel better. John |

Re: 77 - 79 aluminun pontiac trans -am hood
According to my GM know it all some " alum hoods and other liteweight components" were made as part of an "engineering exercise" for the 77 -81 Fbirds----it all was either used by race teams for developemental purposes or destroyed after the engineering exercise!!!! None of those parts ever were released to the general public!!!!
However the 82-85 Fbirds had a factory option RPO T45 which was for the alum hood---it came on Trans Am and Turbo Fbirds ONLY and its is part number 10014649 weighs approx 21.5 pounds compared to the steel hood which weighs approx 60 pounds the early versions have a large A stamped on the front corner of the hood very visible. Later hoods did not have the A stamped on them. This hood IS NOT FLAT has the bulge in it!!!! Also 91+92 Firehawks supposedly utilized the alum hood--In addition a front impact bar was aluminum it weighs 21.6 pounds the steel version is about 31.6---The front impact bumper part number I do not have but it is RPO VD6 came on lots of 82-85 Fbirds 4 cyl up to 455 TA--those are out there ya just hafta look---the hoods are big buck$$$ like 1500 and the impact bumpers are pretty reasonable less than $100 |
