Another way to put performance back in stock/ss
I am just a fan, hence the name. I have followed drag racing since '93 and have been a spectator @ at least one national event each year since. I don't like bye runs and have a possible solution.
Since the number of participants is rarely a power of 2 make the bottom of the qualifying order race to get into the show. For example, if there are 33 racers on the qualifying sheet number 32 and 33 racer to get in the show. If more than that keep working up the qualifying sheet to make the first round a power of 2: 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128. It solves two problems, people playing the ladder for the possible late round bye and rewards performance. The higher you qualify the less worries you have for an extra round. |

Good Idea but 2 drawbacks
1) Racers like the bye runs especially Semis 2) Promoters like the odd car counts because less money they have to pay. Example 3 Sf instead of 4 means they only pay one car instead of 2. Chip Johnson |

Another change would be that you only get the 30 point for the first full round runner up.
