1970 mopar 440-375
I'm confused, looks like this engine is rated 337 hp in a cuda or challenger. The same engine is rated 350 hp in a coronet r/t. I'm sure there are other examples of this type. Can anyone explain this? If this is a dumb question, just ignore it. Thanks.

There are LOTS of engines that carry different power factors in different car models. It's a matter of trying to make racing in individual classes more equalized and/or handocapping particular racers.

Re: 1970 mopar 440-375
For that several years NHRA has factored the body style and individual engine
together rather than just the engine in general. They feel performance is linked to chassis and aerodynamics and well as engine output. This has made for some interesting changes = My Aspen Wagon rerated to a FULL 19 More horsepower than a 2 Door sedan with the same 360. ( Try carrying 230 Lbs. more than all the guys next to you in Class Elims. with same combo.....You will look like a Idiot!) Who would of guessed that the long roof / longer wheelbase / Big roof rack would have generated that much more power and give me SUCH a Advantage! After pushing our Wagon to the back of shop....We put the running gear in a Dodge Pickup at 39 LESS Horsepower with a much bigger cam and more compression if we had chosen to use it ( we did not use it). We set the National Record the first time out and ran 1.30 plus in bracket mode with the worse worn out engine we owned instead of being a bottom feeder on the ladder and first round class runner up. We went from Idiots to Experts with a single broad stroke of the NHRA pencil !! = In class we could wait for the green and beat guys who had worked their butts off for years to get their combinations to work. Not particularly proud of myself..........Unfortunately, That is how to game is played the last few years AND that is the new reality! Irving Family Racing N/SA 1/8 and 1/4 National Record Holders 2009 - 2010 O/SA 1/8 and 1/4 National Record Holders 2010 - 2012

Re: 1970 mopar 440-375
To answer your original question: Challenger and Coronet:
Challenger is 1/2 foot shorter Wheelbase than Coronet Challenger has a glass off hood compared to steel. Challenger has a good ram Air Scoop over Carb. (Coronet has useless cosmetic scoops) Challenger has much smaller frontal area and better windshield angle. Both car exact same suspension front and back. Hum: Challenger should be 13 less horsepower! Melvin: Makes perfect sense to you now?

Re: 1970 mopar 440-375
I have been running the Chevy 396/325HP in Impala's (1968 now 1965) NHRA factored at 325. Just found out same motor, same heads, intake, carb ect is rated at only 320 HP in 1966-1969 Chevelle's? Bigger engine bay in my car maybe worth that 5 HP added? oh, but the Carmaro's 1967-1969 rated at 325 too!
I am asking for the reduction , worth 60 lbs in my Impala. I would then go from 4070 lbs to 4010 in I/SA Will Lamprecht I/SA 65 Imp in progress debut 2016 Div 1 |

Some of us read the rules a little differently. I'm sure all reductions were done according to the rules.
