Re: Solenoid Shifters
Maybe if it's original parts on the trans. Here's the section from the 2016 rule book.
"Any gear change must occur as a result of an internal function of the transmission or from direct action by the driver. (deleted stuff about converters) Electronic rpm controls for the electric (internal or external to the transmission) shifting of automatic transmissions permitted in computer-controlled vehicles only. Otherwise, any gear change must occur as a result of an internal function of the transmission or from direct action by the driver. Pneumatic, hydraulic, electric, etc. controls and shifters in all noncomputer-controlled electronic-fuel injected vehicles prohibited." Note the Internal function of the trans part. Dale

Re: Solenoid Shifters
If the car originally had a computer in it, like an EFI car, then it is supposedly legal.

Re: Solenoid Shifters
Wrong. Whether the car had a computer or not, only the driver can move the shifter from one gear to another. However the transmission can shift itself internally with the shifter staying in one position.

The terms external, permitted, computer-controlled and otherwise (especially Otherwise), muddy this up. The poster needs to clarify this with a division tech. Dale

Re: Solenoid Shifters
Just a note that I did clarify it with my division tech director and he said it was ok.

Re: Solenoid Shifters
Ford, chev and dodge all release electronic transmissions in 1993.so nothing before 1993 should have a Electric shifter in stock.
My 2 cents

Re: Solenoid Shifters
We finally heard back from our Division Tech director and solenoid shifters are ok in computer controlled cars.
