Default hello, I'm new

Hello everyone, next year my dad and I are building our 71 grand prix into a stocker and we don't know anything but alot of gear, alot of converter and alot of duration. If anyone can give us some clues on all the tricks you guys know, I would really appreciate it. My dad and I bracket race around the dallas area and I will hopefully be behind the wheel of the J/SA 71 Grand Prix. Please let me know of any tricks you guys may have and I would greatly appreciate it. Good luck to you all on the up coming season.

Let me know what you need, between Don Himes and I, I am sure we can help you..As you will find out Pontiacs are alot different than chevies, fords and mopars..... Jump in and most of all try and have fun ......LOL, Dave...1033/stock(Pontiac)

The first thing you should do is e-mail Wesley Roberson or Bob Lang and ask for 10 horsepower back, just like the '72. There's only 3 cc's less volume in the valve reliefs, so it should be the same, or you can put the #485912 intake, and 7M5 heads on it and call her a '72 Grand Prix. That way you get the 315 h.p. rating. Then you got to get in touch with Todd Hoven, he's been working on his '72 GTO with the same engine, thing really screams. I'm sure he'll help........................

jake welcome to the insane world of class racing one important thing to remember is the little things all equal up to big gains such as getting the car down to minimum weight 100pounds=1/10th of a second that is just a genral rule and getting the suspenion to work perfectly can mean big gains if your looking for an engine builder jeff stealy in moline ill. has realy made my pontiac run and he knows how to get the most out of an engine and last but not least get your membership into the hair club for men because you will deffinatly have days when you will be pulling your hair out trying to fiqure out what you did to lose that 1/2a tenth

Thanks alot for all your replies. My dad and I are building a 400c.i 300 horse motor. This sucker calls for the 96 cast heads, which are on my bracket car right now. It wants the #481733 intake and the rochester 7041263. Only reason behind building the 400 instead of the 455 is that it would be alot safer to turn her 7200 - 7500 and its rated 25 h.p less than the 455. We also have every original part laying around. What motor/application of pontiac did you build? I'm interested in all pontiac stockers! funny thing is, the 71 grand prix has the 72 grill on it! lol. speaking with Jerry Hefler he told me Xeno or Zeno in arkansas builds a hell of a qjet. I'm wondering what tricks i could use to get her about 7-9 tenths under at atleast qualify than looking like a bunch of idiots! lol

First of all you do not want to turn a 400 Pontiac 7200 to 7500. Build the car as a 1972 Grand Prix with the 250/315 455. this would make it a H,I and JSA car.4.33 or 4.56 rear end gears, shift 5400 to 5600. 5800 to 6000 thru the lights.455 is much better combo than the 400.
