Re: Challenger H/P rating

The Challengers being "package cars" of which only 50 need to be built to be approved by NHRA DO NOT have to have the factory stock heads, intakes, etc, that a legal "stocker" is required to have.....they are required to have the parts Chrysler tells NHRA that they installed when they left the facility.....I have seen the engines in the cars and the hood scoop was required to clear the huge hi-rise intake and 4 hole throttle body on top, NHRA wants the scoop changed for the approval....The "07" 6.1 was rated 370hp by Chrysler and factored to 420hp by NHRA.....in testing the et. being run by the Challenger equates to approx. 600hp for 6.1 auto package....like the '68 package cars I think you will see a lot of attention paid to the performance of the new Dodge and Ford cars as everyone gets more time to tweak them to the max....the microscope is polished and has a big NHRA eyeball in it.....

That Challenger does not appear to be a "package car" (you can see the factory engine on the floor...these cars are to leave the "factory" already modified ready to be personalized....the Indy engine is right from Indy.....probably a lot bigger than a 6.1 and has 2600 cfm of throttle bodies on it.....

Do they have to build fifty of each? If so, I wonder how long it would take for each to be legal? Keep in mind that the customers got to choose which motor. I bet that most orders were for the 6.1.

Re: Challenger H/P rating

No one has been real clear on that yet....According to Chrysler the cars can be ordered by part # and there is supposed to be 6 part #'s......each engine with either a 4sp or auto......according to the rulebook the special run of "50" units says only on an already accepted "body" style doesn't mention drivetrain.....

>>> I wrote, "And, if they are not available yet, how can ANYONE think that the factor is wrong, if they don't have access to the mechanical specs that determine that factor?"

Nobody has responded to this, yet, and I'm still wondering what the answer might be.

Jeremy (or, Jerry?)???????

Re: Challenger H/P rating

The engine specs will be posted soon by NHRA. The three engines are specific to the Challenger package car only and are not the same as the production cars.

Tom, S and S/S rating possible.

The transmissions available are a 5 speed auto or a 6 speed manual.

Correct. That is Dave Duell's car and it was built from a V-6 street car. I saw it at the Indy Cylinder Head swap last weekend, it is one nice car.
