Re: for real or BS
I don't think the "Commando" 235HP motor was available in a Valiant in 1964. It's not in the Classification guide for '64 for the Valiant. '65 is OK.

Re: for real or BS
You're correct Bill...I found out last nite that his 273/235hp Valiant convert was in fact a '65....Has anyone here seen one of these Formula S Valiants? Am sure there are some early Mopar in-the-know people here...I remember him waiting like 20 wks before taking delivery. It came out of Bancroft Chrysler/Plymouth in Worcester, Massachusetts....Good Year Blue Streak blue line tires, Formula S front fender badges, and all....:) WJ

Re: for real or BS
God, it sucks to get old...ha. The old friend w/the Valiant convertible 273/235 car calls me back awhile ago tonite to confirm that he ORDERED the car in late '65 and it actually was a 1966 model....hopefully, I didn't confuse anyone in-the-know w/all this....and the car had a 3.91 rear gear--not a 3.90. Best wishes. WJ

Re: for real or BS
It's a Valiant for sure as I have pictures of it at home. I'll try to post one tomorrow if someone doesn't beat me to it. I wonder why more people haven't tried to run this combo or at least the style car in GT?

Re: for real or BS
Since the D/Dart is only allowed in SS where would it fall and would it be competitive or will it need some HP dropped like the 235 cars?
In the day they weren't much quicker than the 235's. Jim W, what kind of times did you get out of the one that you drove? I would love to build one of these cars but who wants to spend all that money on a combination that's not competitive? Jim R |
Re: for real or BS
Thanks for the pics. Anyone know the weight difference between the 2 dr post cars, 2 dr hdtop, and convertible '66 Ply. Valiant cars? Thanks. WJ

Re: for real or BS
NHRA classification for 1966 D/Dart:
275hp...no factor...SS only. Dart GT : 2945lbs.....10.71 = SS/I Dart Convertible* (?)......11.11 = SS/J * We all know that there were NO convertibles built, why NHRA lists this is a complete mystery to me. Jim R |
