Re: My Super Stock Chevy II......(project)
The deuce is rolling now ! It will be coming home in a day or two and I'll be doing a good bit of welding. I have to plate some holes in the firewall, mount the fuel cell, battery box, master cut-off switch, fuel pump, and some other stuff, then off to the paint shop. I'll get some more pics soon.

I may get some before it goes to paint. I'll see what I can do

Re: My Super Stock Chevy II......(project)
It looks like a very nice job, but is that legal for Super/Stock, Natural, GT, or Modified. I thought the rear frame rail could not be higher than the stock floor line. Hopefully it is acceptable as it is very well done

Re: My Super Stock Chevy II......(project)
I was wondering the same thing Wade. I'm doing the same thing to a 66 Chevy II over the winter , so I was looking at this closely.

Re: My Super Stock Chevy II......(project)
Very nice!!! More pics please.

Re: My Super Stock Chevy II......(project)
It will be fine. Dan Fletcher seems to do well and his car was built by the same man. He also has built many, many National event winners,Best engineered winners, record holders, etc etc.
Shucks, I've seen some super stockers that looked more like a super gas car to me. |

Re: My Super Stock Chevy II......(project)
A word to the wise, just because some get away with something...does not make it legal...no matter who you are! I have several "best engineered" awards myself. I have also brought about change in the NHRA rule book. I know that NHRA inspection is not what it used to be either. If I was going to stretch the rules (and have from time to time) I call *Wesley Roberson and/or Bruce Bachelder. This is just a friendly reminder, I would hate to see anyone spend the time, effort, and $$$$$ only to have them say...you can't race it in Super/Stock. Also remember that it's easy to build something cool or trick, when building outside the limitations of the rules. Example: a tube chassis would be trick for traditional Super/Stock, but not legal! Wesley will be the first to tell you "if the rule don't say you can....then you can't " some folks get that twisted and think " if the rule book don't say you can't...then you can....and Bruce is not flexible at all! Take my advise, and ask the questions to the people that count. My procedure is to send e-mails with photos attached, then you will have a receipt of acceptance from the top! Educate youself and enjoy what you built!
NHRA Bruce Bachelder IHRA Mike Baker You can get their e-mail from either web site....and they will reply back to you! Wade Mahaffey |
Re: My Super Stock Chevy II......(project)
Thanks Jeff. It does have the factory sheetmetal between the frame rails and around it as well. It was a pain in the butt to clean and weld back in. The only sheetmetal that isnt stock is the tunnel and wheel tubs.
On a side note........I just saw a feature on a Super Stock car ( a traditional Super Stock car too.) in national dragster and his tunnel was composite and didnt have any carpet on it...........and I didnt hear anyone say a thing............hmmmmmmm...... Anyhow, thanks for the compliments. I think I'm done showing pics of the build.......it will be done for spring of next year, you can see it then ! |
Re: My Super Stock Chevy II......(project)
Congrats JC once again! I think you are right though, wait until its done to post pics, I'm sure she will be beautiful!!

Re: My Super Stock Chevy II......(project)
don't know who is doing the work, looks pretty good to me. glad to see somebody elese is interested in building real race cars. i might have positioned a couple of bars differently only because of the rules. just my opinion. gary

Re: My Super Stock Chevy II......(project)
Dont stop the pictures i like seeing people build stockers an super stockers. if i had a car like you were building i wouldnt care about the sheet metal. One bad apple ruins the whole thing.

Re: My Super Stock Chevy II......(project)
Would luv to see some updated pics.!

Re: My Super Stock Chevy II......(project)
Show it off brother....if your prowd of it! If you want to hide a little trick or perceived advantage, throw a towel over it! You can still share the craftsmanship that can only be appreciated with photos during the build. The single biggest component that will seperate that car from all the rest is what's behind the wheel anyway.

Re: My Super Stock Chevy II......(project)
I'm very proud of it, I just havent had a lot of time to work on it. I may take some more pics......may not..........we'll see.

Re: My Super Stock Chevy II......(project)
Hey JC-----no joke-----better check and get it in writing if the seats in a post-sedan have to be bench or bucket type. It was only bench from the factory.

Re: My Super Stock Chevy II......(project)
JC, you have a PM.

Re: My Super Stock Chevy II......(project)
I appreciate that Rusty but its a Super Stocker, not a stocker so I should be fine. If not, I'll build a sheetmetal bench seat ! lol
