No worries... if you look at Nitro Joe's stats, the quickest F & G/SA cars in the country belong to some really nice guys, so it can't be one of them. Some guys like to trash IHRA and/or crate motors, like their pile of parts bolted together into an internal combustion engine is different than another pile of parts bolted together into an internal combustion engine. Oh, wait... are those the guys with the fake batteries up front, wheelie bars, aftermarket disc brakes, and superceded parts?

Angela - Yah, I was surprised when some guy wanted to drag other engine builders into a post that had nothing to do with him (or them). Particularly odd because several of them also do top-notch crate motor cars. I think each of them are quality builders, whose best crate motor pieces tend to run pretty close together. Oh, by the way... the Volare that Scott Macy is driving is Terry Taylor's old "Dem Boyz" car... I suspect a few NHRA guys might remember it... :D

Yeah, maybe 430 runs isn't that big of a deal, but I figured that I'd better freshen it this winter because otherwise, it'll be over 700 runs by the end of next year. That happens when you 1) race a lot and 2) go a lot of rounds. I could go silly fast like everyone else but 1) why? 2) I don't have the money. It's just me and my 1500 Ram and an open trailer, getting 13mpg. Other guys can buy -1.30 under cars, toterhomes and stackers... they don't win races, and at that point you're definitely racing for entertainment. My racing operation pays for itself.

Well enough of all that... we should be positive. I feel bad for 'john holmes'.

The only thing we know for sure about Mr. Holmes is that he has an Alligator mouth and a Humingbird ***!!!!!

To be quite frank, we're not interested in racing a car we could only put 100 passes on. We put over 240 on the Volare this year, not only class racing with it but bracket racing as well. Of course in our situation we also raced old faithful, the Coronet, putting nearly as many runs on it as well.

For us, we race 40 plus weekends out of the year. Most times we're racing both Saturday and Sunday, and often on Friday as well. I believe this would be the case for Michael as well, and Jamie Southards isn't far behind with her schedule.

A lot of our class racing friends only race 14ish times a year. In part because of what their schedule or finances would allow, and in part because of being limited as to what kind of racing they can do with their car.

I will say that the fact that Scott is "in the seat" as much as he is, keeps his skills honed and in the end gives him an advantage over the competitor who isn't "in the seat" as much. Just a simple fact.

My point basically is your traditional stocker is all fine and dandy, to each his own. But if you want to race full time/over time and get more bang for your buck then the crate motor is the way to go. Unless of course you are loaded and can afford to have two cars. Obviously in our case we have access to two race cars, but we only own one, and couldn't afford to have both of them if we wanted to. A Traditional Stocker is about as useful to us as having a Top Sportsman car. It's only good for that type of racing. I'd like to know how many races Mr. Holmes goes to each year in his traditional stocker.

P.S. Marc Kinston - We'll stick with our home at IHRA where we are appreciated and welcome, it's the only way to go if you're a sportsman racer.

My dad and I were long time Sloan Engine customers, Tim and his family have always been real good to us.
Even with older technology we still run well. As we move into the "next generation" of Shipmon racers we intend to again use Sloan Engines.
