D1 has a beautiful Fawn '62 in E/S. Abbazia brothers. I think it's a 327/340.

Re: Anyone racing a 60-62 Corvette in Stock ?
Thank you Jeff, I have heard about this car. All good things, hope to see or hear from him. I am looking to build a L/SA 60 Corvette 283 PG.
|
Re: Anyone racing a 60-62 Corvette in Stock ?
L/SA
That would be a single 4 PG car? I might have a set of virgin heads, intake manifold and a tricked carb for that combo. |

Re: Anyone racing a 60-62 Corvette in Stock ?
Wade,
Email me. I can fix ya up. I'm not sure you can run the 4GC but if you can it's faster. I've got both and also a guy who use to run both types of carbs in Super stock who is good on them. I know I've got the intake and heads also. Email me. |

Bub, I know you have been talking to Chris reference to this build. I can't wait to get up there to meet you. I have heard nothing but good about your ability. I spoke to Tex today at Richmond, He also said that you were the man! I got the Carb (4GC or WCFB), intake # (3783244 which is not listed), and head #s (520 & 896) information directly from Wesley Roberson. Thanks, Wade mahaffeymotorsports@hughes.net

Re: Anyone racing a 60-62 Corvette in Stock ?
Joe, I appreciate your offer to help. I am building a L/SA 60 and the 283 hpr is 230 NHRA rated @ 215 I am being told (by Mr. Wesley Roberson NHRA DIV4 official ) I must use the stock Corvette rear housing (third member type). I am awaiting a ruling on the use of a 12 bolt or olds rear for this build from Mr. Bob Lang thru Mr. Jim Collins DIV 2 Tech Director. You could e-mail me to let me know what you use.....I will let you know what I find out about this....should know something tomorrow while at Richmond.
Thanks again Joe, Wade www.mahaffeymotorsports.com mahaffeymotorsports@hughes.net |
Re: Anyone racing a 60-62 Corvette in Stock ?
Sounds like a failure to communicate.
The IRS Vettes use a straight 12 bolt housing as a rule. Look at Sammy's or Dave Casey's |
Re: Anyone racing a 60-62 Corvette in Stock ?
I think Jim Marshall is the only one still running the "stock" rear-end in a Corvette. (that's what Jim told me anyway)
|
Re: Anyone racing a 60-62 Corvette in Stock ?
Joe Santangelo Sr and I , raced a 283 61 Vette years ago . (make that decades ago) We had to live with 230 hp back then. The 245 hp , 2 -4 bbl wasn't too bad until the 350/255 Chevelles got popular.
Not much under the hood room . Of course ,you could leave the hood unlatched..... Nah, better not. It's illegal. Of course there's always thick body mounts... |
Re: Anyone racing a 60-62 Corvette in Stock ?
Wade I have a set of adjustable Stahl headers for that combo. Good shape too.
|
Re: Anyone racing a 60-62 Corvette in Stock ?
Wade you can use a 12 bolt rear without question.
|
Re: Anyone racing a 60-62 Corvette in Stock ?
Thank you all for the information you provided. Hopefully when I get this car up and running I will be able to thank you in person. You'll know it's me and you'll see that I put your input to good use. Thanks again, Wade

Re: Anyone racing a 60-62 Corvette in Stock ?
Wade, with that high RPM little 3" stroke 283, and a 'glide, in a 3300 pound car...
that factory rear end, with the right components, is ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM AT ALL. I've been using them, and ONLY them, in 55-64 cars for 30 years.... including my brother's all steel 55 Chevy street car, with a big block, that ran a 9.70 @ 140 MPH. |
Re: Anyone racing a 60-62 Corvette in Stock ?
Wade,
Good luck with the car-it'll be beautiful and you'll get lots of looks with the fans-I love 55-62 Vettes and if I ever hit the lottery, I'd buy one. Plus with all the heads up runs and all the great looking cars in stock these days, I predict it'll become the most popular sportsman class among fans, and I hate to say that as a comp car owner. |
Re: Anyone racing a 60-62 Corvette in Stock ?
wade,
60 had a solid rear, you can run any rear you want you need a 12 bolt for the gear ratio's and durability... the 230 - 215 is a decent combo... however no BARGAIN because nhra WILL NOT let us use the cheating #459 intake all other 283's get to use... the 265 carb & intake is about 35hp less than a 459 and bigger 4gc the 64-66 get to use... look for a 2x4 intake and run the 245 hp... its a good deal for 30 hp trust me... also i suggest marv ripes for trans / converter he's and OLD 283 guru jack been running the 1960 215 hp for 27 years !!! |
Re: Anyone racing a 60-62 Corvette in Stock ?
Jack and David, thanks for the info, I have ask the NHRA staff for a ruling on the use of a 12 bolt rear in a 60 Corvette Stocker. It is on the desk of National Technical Services Mr. Bruce Bachelder at NHRA headquarters. I expect to hear something shortly from them that will put it to rest.
