Re: Turbo Action Cheetah Shifters
i love mine , and have owned a few over the years. there simple and reliable. and IMO the only choice for a 3 speed air shifted application.

Re: Turbo Action Cheetah Shifters
If you are shifting manually and run a 10 second or faster car and leaving off of a transbrake, then it is not the shifter you want. In a reverse pattern 3 speed I don't like how loose (non-positive) between neutral and 1st it is. I have to bump the transbrake just to make sure it is in first and not somewhere in between and my detent is firm. Also when footbraking anothers car I was (reverse T-400 also) resting my hand on the shifter preparing to shift, but before launching and when I launched the 11 second car the inertia barely pulled my hand shifting it into 2nd right off of the line. I like a firm ratcheting shifter that I have to crank back and not a loose feeling shifter. This is just from my experience as I'm sure it works for many others. I hate shifting a 3 speed, so I guess that's how one feels when you raced with a powerglide most of your life

Re: Turbo Action Cheetah Shifters
I had one in my 97 Firebird stocker with a reverse pattern 200 trans that I manually shifted. I did not like the shifter and the reverse pattern trans did not match the gate so I had to use 3 motions to shift twice. A forward pattern valve body would have made it a much better feel and then the shifter and trans would have been fine. I was going to install the e-shift but never got that far.....For a 3 speed I would say it is a very good shifter......I would not use it with a powerglide.....

Re: Turbo Action Cheetah Shifters
An excellent shifter especially for a 3-speed. One of the only ones that use one air cylinder to shift both gears.
We make some small modifications to ensure accurate and consistent shifts without over-shifts. We also modify it for second neutral, air shifted trans's. We have used it a lot in our own cars as well as customers and it never fails. Shifts are very accurate as far as RPM's. FJ |
Re: Turbo Action Cheetah Shifters
Best 3 speed auto I have used with air. Extremely accurate if the correct arm is used on the trans. BUT....if the "buy one every 4 years or no contingency" still stands I won't own another one. Always one of the first to pay and great product and service.

Re: Turbo Action Cheetah Shifters
We have one in each and every car -- Paul Forte has been my friend and trans company for longer than I can remember and I wouldn't race without his products in my car -- their shifters are the best in the business -- period .

Re: Turbo Action Cheetah Shifters
I agree with mannymen I was disapointed with this thing at first Because there is no positive mechanical ratchet for the gear positions.I make damn sure its in 1st before I stage. Then I can just slap it back going down track (727 rev) Its a little like the best factory shifter ever made-- the Mopar Slap Stik So I guess thats why I bought it.

Kidding aside, look around in the staging lanes at a divisional or national event. You will see legions of them. They just work! Jack is right. Eric |

For the record on this post! I have used a Turbo Action shifter in several different cars with and without air with zero problems. It is a great product and the life expectancy is unlimited. A truely great product in every way. |
Re: Turbo Action Cheetah Shifters
I'm with you - shifters should not be a "wear it out every 4 years" item, if they are, you need to buy a better quality shifter. Tires, gears, rings, bearings, etc., these wear out and need periodic replacing.

Re: Turbo Action Cheetah Shifters
I think they pay now if the serial number is 2001 or newer

Re: Turbo Action Cheetah Shifters
Be careful which one you order. The air shifter style and the manual style have different gates on them. I believe the air style has a strait pull from n to 2nd and then it kicks to the right for 3rd. Using this gate manually you have ot be careful that it's in 1st not 2nd. The manual gate has a stop for 1st and then it kicks to the right for 2nd (spring loaded) and back to the left for 3rd. So you go from n to 1 strait down and at this point it kicks to the right, then pull strait down for 2nd. For 3rd you need to pull it down and left in one motion. If you leave your hand on it during launch, you can pull it into 2nd.
Great shifter, if you have the right one for the application you'll never have a problem and with a quick glance you can see just what gear you are in, not like those ratchet type ones. |
Re: Turbo Action Cheetah Shifters
My footbrake car goes 6:25 in the 1/8th mile. Never any problems, my dad bought everything from McCandless Performance years ago. I have not ordered anything lately from Turbo Action, but the last time I spoke directly with Paul Forte. That is all but unheard of in todays world.

Re: Turbo Action Cheetah Shifters
Have one in the Buick. Gotta say its the best shifter I've every used. Mine is a turbo 400 reverse pattern and I use the air shifter... Everything works perfect..

Re: Turbo Action Cheetah Shifters
I've had mine in my car over 14 years now, never a missed shift or any problems at all. Best shifter on the planet.

Re: Turbo Action Cheetah Shifters
I've had mine for about a year and now my car is wrecked due to the cheap reverse lockout. My 6 year old can get it in to reverse. I always thought the reverse lockout was supposed to be a 2 handed operation similar to the hurst shifters or 2 movements like the precision shifters.
After putting my car in to the wall at 130 mph and upon further investigation, it appears that the slot on my reverse lockout is not drilled long enough therefore with the slightest touch to the t-handle while pushing the shifter in to neutral you can put it in reverse or park if desired. (nice huh) So the moral of the story is.............check a look at yours before your next pass down the track....or you could be sitting like me. Rich Pinoski SS734 |
