.90 class Calcutta (Good or Not)
I was thinking today, How likely are you to kick in an extra $20.00 per race if $19.00 of the money went back to the racers? ($1/car for someone to have the aggravation) I am debating on going through the lanes and collecting $20.00/car to have a side pot for the racers to receive back. I would think on a 100 car count (s/g & s/c) $20/car would total $1900.00 to go back in the hands of the racer, and if we paid back.
Winner 30% ($570.00 + $1500 NHRA money = $2070.00) + Contingency Runner Up 30% ($570.00 + $600.00 NHRA money = $970.00) + Contingency Semi-finals 40% ($380.00/semi finalist + $200.00 NHRA money = $580.00) Or some pre-agreed on payment system (we can vote on that too) Now if the Winner and Runner up DID NOT PUT UP $ we would have to go back to the people who had gone the furthest in eliminations and SPLIT IT UP EVENLY. (semis, quarters, whatever) ???? WOULD YOU PUT UP THE MONEY ???? |
Re: .90 class Calcutta (Good or Not)
Your already there what the hell is another $20. But then you didn't say anything about S/ST.........
There always seems to be a bunch that run in the shoot out ! |
Re: .90 class Calcutta (Good or Not)
sounds like a plan. (good)

Re: .90 class Calcutta (Good or Not)
I could do sst too. The reason I used s/c & sg is the car count is always over 100. I did not mean to count out sst just pay out scale would be less because less car count

Re: .90 class Calcutta (Good or Not)
Tom Goldman and Kathy P. used to do this a couple of years ago for the S/G guys and it used to be very productive. It's always nice to get some cash back when you win.

Re: .90 class Calcutta (Good or Not)
Division 3 has had the shootouts for years....and its a good thing....run the night before.....
|
Re: .90 class Calcutta (Good or Not)
We used to have it ... then d1 said they do not want to deal with another race .... this is just an attempt to supplement the payout that we receive. Was thinking of maybe kicking back even more percentage to semis... they are the ones who really get hammered. No contingency $

Re: .90 class Calcutta (Good or Not)
Yeah we used to have the Top 8 shootout at Cecil and Maple Grove every year for the .90 classes and it was quite fun. I was asked by a few racers a couple years ago to put one together at the Atco D-1 race but when I asked the higher above officials I was told 2 things. First was they were running behind in the schedule and wouldn't have time for something like that (We were done at 6pm that night) and 2nd was there was supposedly a bad crash at one of those races and thats why they did away with it. I don't know but we put together a Super Gas High Roller race at the Atco MASGA this years race and it was ALOT of fun. Had 14 drivers for 8 spots and some good extra cash for the racers.

Re: .90 class Calcutta (Good or Not)
Sometimes there is only 1 car in the semi's. Quarter-finalist should get a piece of the pie also. They don't even get back their entry. A smaller % to the winner and runner up because they get contingency. More racers getting something back might mean more racers participating.
Example: Based on a 64 car field with 50 paying $20 each = $1000.00 Winner - 20% $200.00 R/UP - 15% $150.00 Semi - 25% $125.00 each x 2 1/4's - 40% $100.00 each x 4 |

Re: .90 class Calcutta (Good or Not)
I like it. My brother and I always went in on stuff like this. Like someone mentioned earlier, you are already at the track spending $, whats another 20? Its like the lottery, "hey, ya never know".
I know the guys in T/S were talking about doing something like this for the upcoming season. |
Re: .90 class Calcutta (Good or Not)
We used to do this for the last qualifier at divisionals in Div.1.Based on best package of
dialin on window and r.t.Dave Ley and Gloria ran it I believe. All of a sudden it went away.I don't know why.I asked about resuming it a few years ago and was told it was too much work.Fun while it lasted. |
Re: .90 class Calcutta (Good or Not)
Chris ,It's a great idea to do this, and a lot of racers have handled doing it for years. ....Way back George Rupert did it ,Dottie D did it later and recently my Kathy did it . The only problem you have is everyone starts out saying they want in, but even when Kathy walked the lanes , or even drove around the pits to collect the money the number of participants eventually fell off. ............I will always get in if someone is running one ,but be aware, it can be a big pain . ......The $100 SG Calcutta we had at Atco was great, and I'd like to see more of them . .....Of course we had 3 former Word champs there that day, making it even more interesting. .....Tom

But because D1 had to dip their hands into the pot PISSED alot of people off. INCLUDING MYSELF |
Re: .90 class Calcutta (Good or Not)
well I guess the writing is on the wall 725 views to this poll and 21 people took the time to respond to the poll. I will try to do this deal at one of the races early on and see if I get response at the track. If it doesnt fly then I wont do it again, If it works then I will do it again until the attraction dies off.
Wish D1 did this 2 years ago at the gate |
Re: .90 class Calcutta (Good or Not)
Chris, I voted , so now I can add my .02...
One small thing to consider...at our NESSA races (at LVD for S/ST), we have a drivers meeting before each race and pay entries, etc, and anyone that wants pays into a bounty.. Similar to that, I know more than once Kathy caught me in the staging lanes with no cash on me, and probably more than once I forgot to go pay... So maybe at the D1 races, have an announcement made over the PA or something to help us old farts remember to shell out the dough... Unless you want to go trailer to trailer, and then you might have to stop for a beer, and then who knows ! |
Re: .90 class Calcutta (Good or Not)
I was going to go into the lanes and collect money, that is the simplist way. I will also have section on the sheet to notate if you paid or not. So if you sign up you must put up but not at that second.
P.S. is anyone interested in a S/G driver in 2010 seems that I will not have a ride this season as Lou Nislar (corvette roadster I was driving) has decided to "get out of the racing buisness" |

Way to go Chris, just be prepaired, it is a lot of work. But it is fun S/G guys were no problem, but with the S/C guys it didn't go over too well. Don't know why, but I wish you luck and don't forget to look John or myself up when doing it. |
Re: .90 class Calcutta (Good or Not)
A pre-printed roster/spreadsheet with everyone in D-1's name and # for that class and yes or no box for participation might simplify this. Empty boxes at the end of the list could be used for out of Div racers. It is a good idea, I would offer to help but I do not attend all of the races.
