B/RB Chrysler Valley Pan Bolt Pattern Dimensions
 

If anyone has this data, it would be much appreciated. I need to draw up a design. To clarify, I'm looking for the dimension for the B and RB blocks. I believe the width changes some.

Go to an auto parts store and buy a gasket for a 383 and one for a 440. The 440 is bigger.

Approximately one inch difference as I remember.
10 1/4 C/L of intake bolt holes on Low Deck and
11 1/4 on High Deck in overall width on undecked
blocks.
Is that the dimension you need.........Monday I could jig
some up and give you any other Dimensions you need.
Rods are .4 to .5 longer depending on engine High Block
The valley pan hold down bolts are in the exact same place
but the straps are wider past the holes on the high block.

You can cut down big block high deck brackets to fit low
deck . You can fab or buy aftermarkets from 440 Source.
Be sure there is clearance for intake to heads to fit properly.

Doesn't Indy make their own valley pans for both blocks?

Yes........They are a pain to use.... at least the one piece ones.
You have to pull off a head to get it of to access the lifters
and cam. I am not sure if they fit std. heads as I have only
used them with Indy Heads.
440 Source make several different ones- also at a reasonable price as well.
I just use the stock tin ones on most application and trim
the Head area to use paper gaskets and buy Beer for a
Month on the Savings.

Boy............ am I lost. I need some reference point to
start from and I will jig it up. Are we starting at the machined
areas on front and back of block where valley pan bolt down.
Can anybody explain the diagram to me?

I'm with you on that one... I thought I was the dumb one...

I have a complete 400 engine in my garage that I will do any measurements needed I just need to know where...... It also has the two piece valley pan and I have a spare one piece one.... I will ship it to you it that will help....

Okay, its funny how things can seem simple to you but not to others lol. Anyway, here is a picture of a valley pan to help connect the dots so to speak.

In the schematic I laid out the basic bolt layout of the valley pan and drew a line through the centers so as to indicate they sit on an angle. Imagine my schematic laid over the pic of the valley pan where the wholes line up with one another. This should make things more clear.

Doesn't there need to be a center line for a point of reference to get the measurements that you are asking for? Would that be a line between the two center hold down bolt holes on the B / RB block?

Well, since the bolt are just in reference to each other, you only need to reference the valley pan bolt holes relative to one another. The center bolt holes are centered on the crank centerline and block center so I only need the measurements relative to each bolt hole.

I got it.........................I will measure both Decks when I
get back from Mopar Spring Fling (Monday) . Maybe someone
else will have time before that to get the measurements,

I will get those measurements this weekend since I'm going home this weekend for mothers day. Thats where I have access to all of our mopar engine stuff. During the week I'm three hours away so I don't have access. Anyway, I will post that info if I get to it first.
