Gt/ba ???
A local racer wants to convert his 68 Malibu Coupe into a GT/BA using a 454/450 engine ---his car he says weighs 3400 pounds ---what type of power is he going to need to run the index of 9.80 and to run under the index 4-5 tenths??? Is this a "costly" mission or can this be "easily" (LOL) achieved??? Thanx FED 387

Re: Gt/ba ???
I think that would be a cool combo. Something different.
Online calculator says 715 to run the index and 800 to run 40 under. |
Re: Gt/ba ???
what does NHRA factor that engine to???

Re: Gt/ba ???
thats what i thought i read---now you multiply that by 7 or 8 . whatever that number is something and add 175 pounds driver weight to get your car minimum weight correct?

Re: Gt/ba ???

Re: Gt/ba ???
GT/B and GT/BA - 6.50 Lb/HP 3023 -261 3193 9.70 9.80 6.32 6.38
With a 1970 402 375 HP it makes the weight of the car better.. GT/E and GT/EA - 8.00 Lb/HP 3240 -43 3410 10.00 10.10 6.50 6.57 |
Re: Gt/ba ???
Personally I think he's nuts--- Definitely not the way I would go---ME I think I would look at some sort of a SBC---those BBC can get real expensive real quick !!!!!!!! not that a SBC is any cheaper---then factor in a trans , convertor, rear gears etc. he is going to spend a whole summer just to get the car down the track with decent numbers--Thnks all for the input FED 387

Re: Gt/ba ???
Look at it like it was suggested to me on a Gen 3 car I have.
A well known racer told me to run a mild BB and run .5 under or where ever. You then have a fast enough and dependable enough car to make some big money bracket races. Multi purpose. I'm going to do the baby oval port 402. |

Re: Gt/ba ???
Jim,
Was thinking about the '71 402 / 300 for GT RWD Auto rated at 312 with a 291 head or 322 with GMPP alum head... Not sure what would fit best in the Gen 3 car I have. I like the 375 HP 402's too...I have most of the parts for one with GMPP Heads.. any thoughts or advice? |
Re: Gt/ba ???
I think wait till next year and build a GT car with the new 572. Would that be legal in an older car for GT?
