For Super Stock Only
I have been racing since 1963 and I feel now is the time to allow any modifications allowed in the pan for Super Stock only. This new rule change would help just about everyone racing from the racer who is trying to buy or find the best crank or( lightest) to put in their pan, to NHRA who has a huge amount of head aches trying to approve all of the various combination cranks and even the amount of time it takes to tear down the race cars by dropping the pan . The cost of what’s is in the pans’ these days is beginning to get out of hand let those who have the money to spend all they want in the pan ,and let the Automatic factoring system take care of the amount of ET the pick up if any one does
We would still have the normal tear down of course but no longer would they make the racer pull the pan any more. The time has come for this to happen especially with all trying to cut down overhead during these “economic hard times” ” Now I would like NHRA to double the number of times the Automatic HP factoring System is applied. What does everyone think about this idea? |

What does everyone think about this idea? Don, I was just thinking the same thing,..in regard to the new combos coming into Stock. The AHFS in a strictly mechanical system. By that ,I mean the data is available. All they need is to pay somebody to put it in a computer four times a year. It is amazing to me sometimes ,how cheap and lazy they are .We get very little effort for all the money we pay them. __________________ |

I would have to disagree on the bottom end part. Yes if the mega bucks guy builds a super light bottom and ends up getting hit by he AFS it hurts himself. But what about the others that run the same combination that are not the mega bucks guys with super trick parts. Now you just made all of them uncompetitive.

I suspect that the money is already being spent on the cars pans that are going really quick already and if a racer thinks that super stock racing is cheap they need to re think the class they are in .
I know that this anything goes in a pan will be the future in order to save a lot of Money, hassle and since it is going on already we might as well make it legal . In this day and age there is absolutely no fair way to enforce what is in a pan in any Super Stocker. The haves are already spending the money in their pans and there is no way that anyone can police this in a consistent and fair way to enforce due to the nature of racing now a days |

That would make it easier on the cars that the pan won't come off in the car. There are more fun ways to spend a weekend that pulling the engine to pull the pan.

Isn't there already a class with these rules called comp? If that doesn't work there is the 90 classes with no rules and no teardowns. I really hate the argument that every one is doing it so let’s just make it legal. I say lets get serious about throwing out all the illegal stuff. If people don't like the rules find a class with the rules you do like

Don, I am afraid this is just a "next step" that would blur the line between SS and Comp. If they really wanted to tech in the pan they would have required an access hole with a bolt on cover and purchase a scope to just look inside. Next time anyone rebuilt they make the pan hole as needed. DONE. techable pan. I had been told hitting the crank tells the material so that could help.
I am afraid your thought would encourage the " Just race and keep the Hood shut" as an ultimate method of allowing all the things you believe are being done anyway. Tighter tech with trained people Could be done if they paid good money. But...... Its just a dial in anyway except Indy....Points meets and most National events. Too many combinations, Too many specs, too few tech men and too little to gain for this level Tech to become common place. Want to really limit the problems? Limit the choices, limit the specs making it easy for ALL to identify an illegal part, or carb or ... If people insist on more and more combinations in the book they are chosing to create the problems not constructively correct some of them. I am not sure why NHRA doesnot create a spec motor class where THEY sell the legal parts and then they make the money AND control the modifications to Zero. Kind of like limiting Tires in Pro Stock. |
