Thanks, I was looking too. I am hoping to find a set of 4.56's one of these days.

That process that Jim Bailey does will probably do more. He freezes them and then chemically treats them. I gotta tell you, it really works. Much easier to turn, quieter, and I ain't busted one yet in my large land barge (3750 lbs). Email me if you need the number. jefft@southlanddodge.com

Re: 8 3/4 pro gears

The only PRO gear available for the 8 3/4 from Richmond is a 4.86 for the 489 housing. They will make you a PRO gear set for anything if you want to get up off your wallet, but, currently this is the only one available.

Strange makes a 742 case Pro gear.

http://www.strangeengineering.net/catalog/index.html

But that's a 2008 listing. Don't know if thay are still actually making it.

But I'll stick with my regular ones. I just got a set "Finished" and will see how that works out.

Re: 8 3/4 pro gears

I looked at Pro gears from Strange last year, but they were backordered forever, and ended up getting a Richmond street gear. The last couple years, I've been making 400+ runs/season. The "Finished" gear is quieter, runs more freely, and it picked the car up a few hundredths, even in the 1/8th mile. It's not something I was thinking about at the time, but there was definitely a performance gain to go along with the longevity. Given what I've been hearing about the quality of the metal in new gears these, I'd never run them without having them Finished. Cheap E.T., and when all said and done, doesn't cost any more than an untreated Pro gear.
