sparkplug gap?

bbc, 3300lbs, auto w/brake, msd 7AL. NGK G groove #UR6GP. we've run them out of the box with no issues @ .040" gap. time for a new set, possiably to a .050" gap? may i have your opinion/experiance please...thanks.

Re: sparkplug gap?

Remember that the larger the gap, the more important that the condition of the wires, cap, rotor. Since the performance benefit would be negligible, I would leave them at .040". My .02.

thanks jim. makes sence what your saying. i ended up talking to NGK and found that the g-groove plug is their platinum unit.....not a race plug. we've stepped up to their V POWER race plug, a touch hotter one too. the .040" gap is fine also. good cooperation from the manufacturer.

don't mean to highjack thread but why does my 454 motorhome call for .060 gap? seems a lot to me... i run racecar at .045.

We're not running points anymore guys.......next time you're on the dyno with the latest ignitions, especially Digitals, try .020 - .025.(Or just put them in outta the box.) You just might like it. Ask Chuck Beach what happened when we closed his up. JB.

something else to remember the wider the gap the more power it takes to fire the plug---also if ya run in a hot humid area ya just
might try .005 less gap just might help some--Comp

If he closed them up from .035 -.040 to something less and it helped,. then he had a problem elsewhere.
