Educate me in MX classes

Ok I have always wanted to race Super Stock since I drove a friend of mines SS/FM many years ago...

I have been racing Outlaw 10.5, and other N/A heads up classes lately, but have been looking at the MX classes and think my car will fit. The car is a 1990 Mustang with a Rick Jones tube chassis ( except the front shock towers ). Other than that its your basic Pro Stock car. Carbon fiber front nose, carbon doors, and hatch, with steel roof and quarters. The car is currently certified 6.0 by NHRA. I was thinking about either a V-6 and SS/AX or even a 2.3 4 cyl for SS/CX.

First question is my car legal being its still a super stock class? and which is the better route the 4cyl, or the V-6?

Either way the car will have a glide for the trans ( if allowed)..

Or am I just looking at this all wrong?

The guy you want to talk to about that is Tim Cole at Comp Cams. He runs those classes with a Corvette powered by a V6. Tim is a super nice guy, and always willing to help a fellow racer. He knows the ins and outs of the class as well as anyone.

Freddie, not sure how available 4 cyl. stuff is or how competitive it would be. There is however quite a bit of the Ford V-6 stuff out there. I've often thought about gathering up some of the 4 cyl. stuff just to try it but I've been fairly content with my V-6 stuff.Joe Oh and yes Tim is very good with the V-6 stuff, he's helped me quite a bit with mine.

Are you running the old SVO V-6 stuff? There is a good bit of 4 cyl stuff out there, but would have to run the car in CX because of the weight. And have been thinking of doing a turbo deal to run DX. Otherwise I am limited to sourcing out V6 stuff and running A or B.

Thanks

Yes, all old SVO stuff, what's the weight of your car? Mines just shy of 3000# with a 276ci. engine. To answer the other part of your question, yes I'd say the car would be legal for the X classes, basically chassis cars with carpet, my one sticking point on my AX car was the lack of a "stock appearing" dash.Other than that they had no other issues with it.Joe

in 10.5 trim with a small block, two nitrous bottles and me we tip the scales at 2315# One of the reasons i was looking at the 4 cyl.

OH yeah, that would mean AX with a V-6, unless of course it was VERY small and you gained some weight.
