I understand the rule, but how can they dial over the index!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe that is at least the second or third time that has happened at national events this year. I would think the computer would at least default to the index. It happened at Pomona in Stock E1 when I was there also but the opponent red lit. Very unfortunate to travel all that way and have something like that happen.

Ya know, those 8 bucks an hour employees just aren't getting the job done in the tower...Guys are we really getting our money's worth with the NEW NHRA ??

i think they got the dial in backwards.that should have ben a rerun.

That happened to me one time. Since then I religiously check my dial before pre staging. If the number is not on the board or correct I will not stage. Mistakes are made so it's up the driver to verify he has the correct dial. Once you stage you own the dial on the board. It's been this way for years. It's actually amazing that the tower crews do as good as they do. It's a thankless job. It's a real tough way to loose.

It is such an important number. Mark them clearly for the tower staff to help the problem.

Once at at E Town I dialed 11.11. Had the left lane so not sure how you could not see the number correctly from the tower window, but they did. Looked at my dial and staged. What I didn't notice they had entered 1.11. Needless to say I didn't win. How the hell does the timing system allow you to enter a 1 second run.

I got my time slip at Sonoma showing I lost, I loaded up and left. After DD called about mailing a check for round money (this was a few years ago lol) he asked why I was a no show the next round?
The time slip was printed backward (my lane had his numbers but car numbers were correct. This was a .90 class race so the numbers are real close) At the time I couldn't figure out how I lost, I didn't.

A possible scenario (different occurance) for this to occur was posted on facebook:

So here's the deal as I was standing about 2ft from the computer operator in the tower when this happened.

Yes, the computer alerts the operator with a beeping noise when things aren't "right"

The computer also uses that same beeping noise to alert the operator to set the next pair at the starting line.

The pair before Jim's run had some sort of a hangup or delay so Jim and his opponent were behind the starting line. The computer was beeping, telling the operator to set the next pair. It was likely ALSO beeping because of the 12 second dial in.

She set the pair and the beeping stopped.

I was not on the mic at the time but in the room. Ultimately I'm disappointed in myself that my brain did not trigger in time to stop it from happening.

So the answer is yes there are guards in place and yes there's human error at play here and yes, it should have been caught and stopped.

I asked this when it happened before. Say Jim would have caught this on his way down the track. At the eighth mile he lifts and paces his opponent down the track and gets the win. Then what? Does his opponent have to accept the loss because he "accepted" Jim's dial in by staging?
