I remember when we won our first nhra race. It was the York Invitational And It was raced on a holiday weekend. We had brought enough money for gas and tolls. When we made it to the final, We were hungry so we knew we were in the money so we bought hamberers and fries and cokes, for the 4 of us.
Well we won and much to our surprise we got paid by a check written from a local bank. Everybody we knew had left the track and we didn't have enough for gas and tolls to get home. And the bank was closed the next day for the holiday. We had to stay at the track without a thing to eat till Tuesday morning. When we got the check cashed and went home. This was way before cell phones and our families were frantic.
