If I lived in the Carolinas I would race a lot of IHRA, but I don't. The problem Is the quality of the facilities and the location for a lot of us.
Greg......Its like being between the rock and a hard spot. IHRA cant get the cream of the tracks unless they get participation. Same deal with contengencies. It takes time and commitment from both sides. Which came first....the horse or the cart. NHRA didnt have what they have over night though to most younger guys on here it might seem that way. They were not around in the lean years to see how things were. IHRA was on a roll in the early years but due to bad decisions, bad management and probably most of all....the Billy Meyer fiasco.....IHRA took a hit and never fully recovered then had a bunch of jerk offs pretending to run the association in later years. Bill Bader was the best thing to ever happen to IHRA and his friends and partners screwed over him so he bailed out. Cant say that I blame him. There is so much the general racing community will never hear about that went on behind closed doors. Things I wont say on an open forum. Now its the economy so GOOD sponsors and GOOD tracks are few and far between. Without support they will never recover. I havent been with them in about 10 years so its no skin off my butt. Its just that NHRA keeps treating the little guy like dirt such as yourself without any recourse and the die hards just keep on supporting them anyway. I just dont see the attraction of getting screwed every time the NHRA racers turn around. Its almost like they enjoy the beatings and drain on their wallets. Its almost like a "Good ole Boys Club". I think travel distance is a cop out. I read and hear about so and so making trip after trip to the west coast from the east coast and the other way around. Most racers from Div. one wont travel any farther than exit #4 and exit# 8 on the NJ turnpike but that may be because of the quantity of stock and S/S racers located in that area and they can get over 100 cars easy . Its like a captured audience. Its a free USA (so far) so make a decision to fight what is happening to the litle guy now or continue to taking it up your shorts. Makes no difference to me.
