In my opinion he would have to accept the loss. it works both ways. I check both dials when I stage just to make sure. If there is a mistake in the other lane I want to know about it although its not my responsibility to alert the starter that the other drivers dial is not correct. you would be surprised how many don't check their dial before staging. Once you stage and run the race you have accepted the dial. In the overall scope of this it is a fairly rare occurrence that the dial is incorrect..
