I think some of the stuff they did was to try to collect more contingency money- I don't think Weber was paying contingency money in Modified Eliminator in the '70s, so if they could figure out how to make it run the numbers with Holley carbs, they could make more money.

They had the same issue with intake manifolds, and if memory serves, they used to run completely hand-fabricated custom intake manifolds, with Edelbrock logos attached to them, in order to get paid.
