To all that know him, Mikey has raced Stock and Super Stock for years mostly in IHRA but always the close NHRA Division 3 races. He was injured Sunday afternoon while he and his son Darren was riding an ATV Rhino. We had all rode for several hours on a friends farm and were done for the day. He and Darren wanted to take a ride on the Rhino and what was a nice day turned ugly very quick. They turned the Rhino over on the drivers side and Mikey took the hardest impact. They did not roll it over. They weren't thrown out but more or less impacted the ground hard. Darren wasn't injured other than a few bruises. Mikey was taken by ambulance to a local hospital then flown into University of Louisville Hospital. The extent of his injuries are a broken back ( L1 vertebrae) and a nasty cut on his head that required 2 staples. He is OK if that can be said in the same sentence as a broken back but we all know it could have been much worse. He is in a back brace and will remain in it for 3 months. He can't pick up anything heavier than a gallon of milk and can not work. He is in good spirits, but I told him he looks like he is walking on glass. He hopes to attend the Bowling Green points race as a spectator. You can't keep a good man down long.
