Question Stk/ss ahfs - Poll

With the 2009 indexes reduced by -.3, I was wondering what all the racers consider a FAST (Bad *****) run. Is it -1.0 under? 1.1under? or 1.2?under, or even faster?. Second part of the question, where do you think the NHRA AHFS trigger should be set? This is just a survey. It has nothing to do with NHRA, IHRA, or SRAC. I'd personally just like to know what all the racers out there are thinking, additionally, if you're a keyboard racer, and haven't raced in the past year...I don't care what you think.

Trigger should be at -0.85 (same as 2009).... I wouldn't be opposed to -0.80 or -0.75 either.

... and review quarterly with a rolling 6 or 12 month average

.... a better way to weed out the soft combos.

-1.00 under (-1.30 under the old index) is very fast. -1.20 under today is CRAZY fast.

$.02,

In good air, 1.0 under is pretty stout, for any class except AA/SA and AA/S. For those cars, in good air, about 0.8 under is pretty stout.

I think those should trigger a review, and 1.15 should be instant 3.25%, of course, you won't have separate numbers for the AA classes. For every 0.05 under you go past 1.15, they should add about 1%, so that 1.25 under would be 5.25%.

But they all should be factored back to an SAE standard day at sea level from the actual conditions at the track when the run was made, and instant HP should only come after a complete "National Record" tear down that is mandatory.

Why not use the 1/8th mile times when reviewing a combination?

I'd say use 1000' numbers and compare them to known good runs to catch the sandbaggers but that would make too much sense.

As bad as the situation is with the new HP factors unless they're put into their own class it will never be resolved in the near future. As far as I see in the rule book there is no rule against bagging. You can't arbitrarily hand out HP based on 1K ft times.Every car is different.
This arguement is gong to be as bad as the one about the chicken and the egg.

It would make the racing better for sure. I watched some qualifying at Charlotte earlier this year and was shocked at how many people were "protecting" their combination.

1000' times are a pretty good indicator. 1000' to 1320' don't vary much between cars running similar times. The sand baggers use 1000' times to know what to dial and know where they stand in a heads up pairing.
