Talking 1968 Camaro 350THM

So my question is...why are you not allowed to run a 350 turbo trans in stock in a small block 68 Camaro. I bought a 295hp stocker motor on this board, drove 7 hours to pick it up to be dissapointed that I can't run it because of the trans rule. My fauly I know, should have read in between the cracks that are in between the cracks in the rule book. So now do I spend $2000 on a new powerglide trans/converter to run the motor or freshen my 330hp crate for half that money and run it again? Heres my beef....check out the links.

http://www.kitcarusa.com/kb.php?aid=108 - scroll down untill you see 350THM

Theres alot more crazy combo's in Stock than a 3 speed behined a 295hp 350...but we won't even start a new 72 page thread.

This Baby is a THM350 (Turbo-Hydramatics Only available on the SS396 Camaro)!

Stick a 396 in it.

Crate Camaro,If you are going to run all IHRA I would freshen the Crate Motor,It is alot easier to make run under the Index,On the flip side the 295/350,with a glide is a very consistent combo, but will not win any heads-up races. I have run this combo for years, wasnt that bad until all the Technology came around for the three speeds now it is a horrible combo,NHRA will not allow a three speed in a small block 67-68 camaro because chevy didnt put a three speed behind the small block until 69.You are allowed to run a 295 hp Motor in a 69 or 70 Camaro @ the same hp rating with a three speed.GOOD LUCK.

Monte,
Don't be so sure about not being able to win any heads up races.

If NHRA allowed you to run a three speed, how much do you think you would pick up?

See you at Indy.

It appears as though Chevrolet did put some THM 350's in some test fleet 68 camaros, so says CRG. Whether NHRA will acknoledge this, I haven't a clue.

Interesting reading-

i'd argue that i've NEVER seen a big block with a 350 turbo behind it in an OEM vehicle.
besides, i'me pretty sure th350's didn't enter the scene until 69...in anything.
