What do you do to prepare your car for a heads up run?

Title says it. Not lookin for any mahor secrets. Just interested what different people do when switching from bracket mode.

I've never had a "bracket mode" as I'm in the "let's rotate the earth every pass crowd".

But you'll see others:

• change to radials
• massive engine cool down
• adjust timming
• adjust jetting
• connect the secondaries
• increase launch RPM
• increase shift RPM
• let the alternator belt fall behind the pulley
• change to light-weight crisco and forget a few quarts
• Re-calibrate factory on-board computer if applicable
• confirm valve lash is set
• remove air filter
• use the really high dollar fuel
• adjust weight

That covers the legal stuff. Or at least all I can think of right now.

Here's a link to a great article from Dan Dvorak, and a quote: "This is our 10 step program that predictably yields fifteen hundredths. (.15 ET reduction) We know this because we have done this before, time after time. Some on this forum may find Dan a little.....well...different....but I met him a few years ago at his shop and find him to be a good and down to earth person. Remember he was the one who led the fight againt the class cars being forced to run mufflers. He has been thru some phyisical and personal problems in the last few years that would have stopped a lot of us dead in thier tracks. Im amazed that he has built a new 64 Hemi ride (IHRA AA/SA stocker) against all odds such as learning how to drive with one leg and is about to try racing again. Its sad that he had to sell the red 63 Dodge to pay off his mountian of medical bills but from what I have heard the new ride is just awsome. I wish him well and hope to see him at a race soon. Just goes to show you that if you want to race bad enough you can find a way to do it.

Can you pull the belt behind the pulley? I know are tech man always checks that right before you pull under the tower.
