After 1000 plus miles of travel and individual meetings with three of the top engine builders in the country the consensus is: I do not have a chance of winning any heads up runs with the new CJ or DP cars.
The answer for me is the F/X class for those "New Cars" I, Danny G., Bruce B., and many others will not live long enough for the AHFS to level the playing field. I probably should include Linda Louie but she doesn't have a clue about Class Racing. Larry |

Sucks to be you Larry! In the past you could not win because the fast guys were bending the rules, or outright cheating. Now you can't win because of the new cars. If you think you can't win, YOU CAN'T WIN. New cars break, drivers snooze, go red, fail fuel check, don't make weight or maybe even get bounced in tech, the list is endless. They can, have been and will be beaten by guys who have not interviewed your 3 top engine builders. But, you say it's a no win situation for you. So, NHRA creates an F/X class, and you are still stuck with those pesky scofflaws in the upper classes. I'm not saying the new cars are right, but I certainly don't think this would be the end of your fault finding missions.

And Andy's Dad has it right also. If you think it's the way to go, go that direction with a positive attitude!

If you believe in that much luck, may as well play the lottery.

It's not the car it's the driver. There is always a chance, it's what you call luck. |

Yea, right. How many races you gonna win when the guy has you covered by 5 tenths or more. Larry's car is not exactly slow, I've seen him go low 10 teens in A which is pretty decent.

Larry,
Like you and many others, we are faced with the same situation. We have to, however, believe that NHRA is not only aware of this dilemma, but also actively working on changes for the 2011 season. Comments on this site have helped to raise awareness and facilitate the upcoming changes. However, at this point, we need to be patient and await whatever changes are coming. At that point, each of us can assess the impact those changes will have on our individual combinations. It is important that we collectively try to move in a positive direction. It is best for us as individuals and our sport as a whole. Sites like this allow free expression of many different views, but I am saddened to see the personal attacks on you and others, rather than addressing the actual issue. This has a tendency to reduce our effectiveness, as a group, with those (like NHRA) who monitor this site. Just remember the immortal words of John Wayne -- "A big mouth don't make a big man". |
