Ed, the higher car count in 1970 is hardly suprising. Don`t forget, there was no S/C,S/G,or S/ST .90 classes back then. In 1970, most tracks had also never heard of "bracket racing" either. I know plenty of guys that used to be Stock or S/S racers that have switched to the "Super" classes in the past few decades.

Nothing is perfect but the basic index concept is as fair to everyone as it's going to get. If you have the resources to go faster than everyone else, have at it. If you don't, you can still take part and have just as good of a chance at success (winning) as the next guy. Either way, nothing worth having is going to come easy.
I agree Rick, however this has nothing to do with AHFS. If done right this can determine if the engine has the correct HP on it to start. The system right now keeps the fast engines artificially on top. Do you know how fast a combo has to be to average a second under? It tells a story all by itself.

it seems to me the whole issue surrounds those who have chosen thier combos poorly and believe like our new president and congress that taking from those (who can go fast) will help those who dont wanna work.

jack mccarthy
Jack,

You ran 14.00 in U/SA at Belle Rose. One of your fellow competitors ran 13.03 in U/SA.
Are you saying that you chose a poor combo?Don't work on your car?

I have one of the slowest cars in Stock Eliminator (choose a poor combo, and only change oil),yet I am still within a second of the cars in my class.

442 Olds, Jack has raced that car since before there was dirt so I think that you can safely say that he's attached to it probably like you are to your car and the man works his *** off on it and spends all but his "drinkin money" on it! Pick on him about something else.

If he spent his "drinkin money",would he be able to run 13.03 in U/SA?

darryl,

bob shaw is the king of choosing the right combo
he does his homework, and does not cheat
i was impressed, and congratulated him on his impressive performance

with that said, i reiterate "THE AUTOMATIC HELP FOR SLUGS CANNOT AND WILL NOT EVER WORK" unless bob shaw is a complete idiot (and he is not) it would take i believe 5 more runs of -140 to get him to T/SA. we need a committee that is intelligent enough to look and say "geez, thats a 350cid olds motor, with bigger valves, similar camshaft, 500cfm fuel injection, maybe that 170 hp is a little soft compared to 283 215hp 415cfm carbs and 273's with what 200cfm carb (i know its tiny)" HMMM maybe it should be about 230hp ?????????

ahfs is only keeping us from having a better system... kill it NOW, and lower these stupid easy indexes about .50 while they are at it .

captain jack, -1.15 and still got enough drinking money too

any by the way -1.15 was an oops... i didnt mean to hit the trigger but i knew he was real late and i thought hey maybe i can get him some HP !!!

Can someone please explain what the benefit of lowering the indexes by any amount is going to help? If you lower it want the cars still be the same distance apart? And if you lower the guys that are crushing the indexes combo will never get hit because that magic 1.40 will not be attaniable. I don't know of any combos that are that soft to a point where someone could still hit unless it was at a factored track.
