there is a lot less parts breakage today than there was 25 years ago...how could that be possible?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure on this one. You may not see as many catastrophic engine failures but there are sure more instances of stuff getting hurt.

WOW did not know I would stri up this much of a conversation! I only wanted to know because I am rebuilding a motor combination I ran 10+ years ago, I know at that time a lot of stuff we could not use we can today.

I might still run the stamped steel rocker arms, never broke one with over a 100 passes on this motor. They are Crane, but not even "long slot" , felt I didn't need it with a .398 lift cam.Hope i can use the Shubescks too, they never broke either. I'll be good just getting it back to where it was, even though I "lost" 2 Tenths in index it should still run 3 to 5 tenths under. Same 290 heads with no "tricks" Low RPM motor.

Quite honestly more concerned about going from Stick Shift to Automatic, seems like that Converter Tranny stuff can be the real money pit. That Jerico I had in my car is now in my buddies Nostalgia C/SM Camaro- we figure over 350 passes on that tranny without being touched.! Now it is going behind a Straight 6 292 built to old H/MP trimOOPs hope I didn't jinx him!

The reason I got back into NHRA legal class racing was the challenge. Searching junk yards for parts and gaining friends helping to research parts and methods to run hard, I thought, was the best part. Anyone can build a fast car with a credit card. We need to keep the stock part in stock class. When we were tore down after setting the record in M/S in 2013, we were told by the head tech guy that Don's Mustang was the most legal stocker in the country. Besides setting the record this was one of the best days I've had racing. It can be done using legal STOCK parts. Granted some of the parts are a little "stocker" than others but work with what you are given.

Don't think cams don't go flat with tool steel.
