Default Suggestion for New Pure Stockers

IHRA has done a wonderful job allowing Pure Stockers to compete.
More and more are being built and hope to see a dozen or so new names this year.

But there is an opportunity to open up the numbers.
Allow the new cars to compete.

This is my recommendation.
Keep current rules for 2005 and below cars as is.

Cars after 2006 have to run factory Springs, Cam, Stock Exhaust system.
Allow Slicks, DOT's, Gears, Converter, high flow mufflers and bolt on headers, bolt on fresh air system.
All accessories hooked up just like out of the factory and just Bolt On's.

Naturally aspirated V6 and V8 cars.
No turbo or supercharged cars...at least for now.
That is it...

Need to figure out what class index them to fit into. (HP/Weight/Index)

Will need some certification process.
Such as getting the Manufacture and Dealership providing documentation as produced and no secret cam.
Here is where things get sticky because we need the manufacturers and dealership help.

Key issue getting Car manufacturer and IHRA buy in.
Potential to sell more cars.
Earn a bit in preparing and setting them for their customer.

The new cars are structurally stronger and would like to see the Roll Bar certification upped from 11.50 to 11.00 flat.

You have the GTO/G8/Chevy SS, Mustangs, Cudas/Challengers and Corvettes, Cadillac's....(if I forgot one list it)

Would like to see Sedans from BMW, Mercedes, Audi participating too.
But that is a whole new can of worms argument.

A lot of racers have bought these cars and looking at testing them in Class Racing.

OK seeking Feedback !!

Dan

Dan,
Good thoughts 👍 Here are some of my suggestions
1) factory type wheels aftermarket ok but must be oem sizes (no light weight wheels) bogarts etc.
2) DOT Tires -drag radials , et streets etc. No full on slicks
3) stock manifolds or shorty headers only
4) must keep cat. Converters in stock location after market high flow ok
5) aftermarket mufflers ok in stock location factory style full exhaust
6) stock oem electronics and pcm any tune
7) stock oem trans. and torque converter
I think thats it for now i was also considering cost along with mods.
as far as tech goes maybe they can use tech stickers so they dont have to tech the whole car to save time.

There is a lot to Know!
The lower Classes have more rules just because!
Brackets have the most liberal rules!
Stock requires a huge knowledge base.
Some of the nit picky issues with Stock ended up becoming liberalized.
The faster they went the more safety features.
After a long while we have what we have today.

Pure Stock tech processes are more detailed than regular Stock.
But can be made to be a whole bunch easier with a few changes!

There is a huge pent up demand and market base for new Pure Stockers.
The manufacturers and IHRA will benefit.
The Fans will show up because they are curious.
They don't understand 60s cars but they know the current ones.

There has to be a conversation and consensus to build this class.
Done properly a whole new generation of cars and kids will show up to compete.

The same dynamics are in play as it was in our time!

IHRA ..... Tear Down That Wall!

I agree with certain suggestions on this subject. The proper training is paramount to the full enforcement of the class rules.I believe there is not a tech man in any sanctioning body that doesn't want to do the best job that they can.Pure stock is the one class with the most stringent rules by far. There always seems to be plenty of people that can set back and tell everyone how bad the tech ppl are.Well why don't you go to the head of the line and become an official and tech person? Class RACING needs your expertise now more than ever. It's going to take all involved to keep s/ss alive as we know it.I feel I can say this due to have given 7 yrs. to trying to keep a level and fair playing field.in all classes by enforcing the the rules as written. So the next time you talk with a tech person or race official.why don't you thank them instead of talking trash. They are there out of the love of the sport ,without them there would not be an event.Good luck to all in 2017 and may the win lights be plentiful in your lane.

I like the sounds of all this, but tech would be the stumbling block.

I just wished someone at Ford would supply the cam specs for my 2005 Mustang GT to IHRA so I can run Pure Stock with it.

You want the car in the other lane to have real radial slicks, but not you?
Of course he'll have lane choice too.
Better think this one through again.

^^ good points.

I know the 4 times I have been through teardown after setting class records I got to see more of what techs go thru.

They have my utmost respect. They have to be familiar with all the different combos ( and it is A LOT ) and constantly changing rules. Plus they have to deal with racers that push things into the "gray area"
