Yesterday at Orlando Speed World Dragway eight local Super Street racers put together an eight car Super Street Race. We had planned this for a couple of weeks. Wade Rich suggested the date and it worked out well for us.
Each racer kicked in $100 each over the track entry for the purse and it was winner take all. Mike Griggs was the winner and Randy Whitener was runner up. The rules were simple. A 10.90 index, a .470 Pro tree, each car got two time runs, pairings were done by blind draw for each of the three rounds. Each racer's pairing also determined the lane each driver would have. No flipping of coins for lane, just pair up with your opponent in your assigned lane and race. No one was scaled. Some may ask why we didn't ask anyone else to join in. Good question. 1. We weren't sure we could even get more than eight drivers. 2. I haven't done this kind of thing before. 3. Keeping it simple allowed us to figure what worked. One of the racer's wives helped by holding the purse and recording pairs and results. The group was also able to sort out how any bye runs would be assigned. The Southern Stock and Super Stock Association ran there yesterday and we just followed after them. This made it easy for the tower to keep track of what class needed a pro tree. It was a beautiful day, just perfect for racing. |
