M68....That "Break Away" Firebird is still around...somewhere. Saw it at a car show in
CT about a dozen or so years ago...original owner bought it back and did total resto....
including the lettering...

Love those early season? Dover shots with the snow melting...I missed out on Dover
back in the day...wish I hadn't!!!

There is a story about the second car pictured above (which, by the way, started out life as a hardtop) on the H.A.M.B. web site's Junior Stock thread as told by Dominic "It's Dynamite" Rinaldi. I wish I had the exact link for you. It's somewhere there in that very long thread.* It's a very interesting story as Dom relates the details on how Frank Sulc transformed the team's second Challenger from a hardtop to convertible with (body and interior) parts help from Chrysler due to a shortage of 1971 Dodge Challenger convertibles--at least at the time the C & S team needed one after the crash of their first Challenger on top end at Sanair.

1970 I think it was....

I was there in the lanes when that happened....Was half asleep as it was pretty late and we had waited for a long time for Stock to pull out. It was a saturday night extra eliminator.....Sunday was the WCS event and as I recall it....Tommy Calahan jumped in his old car the '62 Plythouth that Frank Iaconio had been driving.....and won the race on Sunday.....I do recall the scrape marks on his helmet from the Challenger rolling over......and the broken front wheel. Not very cool......The track had some drainage ditches along it.....very unsafe....

I was there with Joe Simon and at the time we still owned and raced the Chevy II in one of the earlier pictures with Decola-Delvecchio's names lettered on the door......We sold it to them in 1972

Sanair was nice...Only track I can ever recall having a beer stand near the stands.......and a bar in the tower...
