rod bearings recommendation

Working on our old 283 for local combo races. Currently checking clearances and need some recommendations/help on rod bearings. Standard rod journal size.

Also need some help on bearing identification on old bearings. Only marking I can see is the number "2993" and a stamp of some type. Not able to recognize stamp. They are at least 25 yrs old.

I've been using the Clevite H-Series Tri-Armor coated bearing for my small-journal 327. Competition Products had a number of different sizes available. I know that King also has the small-journal bearings in their most recent catalog, and they make a quality product.

No guess on the old shells, I'm afraid. A lot of companies made engine bearings back when that motor was new, but it would make an interesting search! Could you take a picture of the number/stamp?

Yes, I can get a pic and attempt to post. May need help from some of the pros to post.

It's going back into a 66 chevy2 wagon. Hoping to get things together later this year and have some fun again.

As a follow-up to the 283 build, does anyone recognize the stamp and number for this rod bearing? Again, it's at least 25yrs old. Disregard the background...I just propped the bearing up against a box to take pic. thanks for any input.

Looks like a VanderVel logo....and that is my guess....

They were around 25 years ago and I used them on some engines

Clevitte did not make H bearings yet...and the VanderVels were good...

They usually had a little more clearance than a Clevitte....

VanderVel is part of Mahle now and so is Clevitte I believe...

We used Clevittes in almost every engine as well as some C&A's and VanderVels occasionally.....

thanks for the info. I went to dad's this afternoon and found some 350 bearings with the same stamp. The good news is they were still in the box and it was a VanderVels box. They were also old as well. Dad hardly ever throws things away...it just takes time to find stuff.
