Time was, when you would walk out on the starting line, it would pull your shoes off. That was when VHT was being used. Anyway it adds up, VHT or PJ1, something has changed and it shows on your 60 foot time and on your shoes. They say PJ1 is the same as VHT, only costing less money per drum. Just walk out on the starting line and see for yourself if your shoes stick to the track. You will be in for a surprise.

Something's different and I know VHT worked and they changed the name of the product to PJ1 and now many people are having trouble hooking up.
As a number of others have responded to this kind of post in the past, PJ1 is VHT. They are the same product. PJ1 is the parent company.

I received an e-mail last week from a track out west, which stated:

I am one of the Drag Strips that is listed in staging light. Thank You! I have a problem, last month our track was getting slicker and slicker. We had just purchased a new drum of VHT from an OK. distributor, After 3 weeks of trying to find out what was wrong we sent a sample of the VHT in to be tested, we also at the request of PJ. Harvey sent him a sample to test. The VHT is contaminated with diesel. Mr. Harvey called me at 12:45 pm. on 6/19/13 and said yes the VHT has diesel in it. He continued to say his competitors was sabotaging his product.
If a track is having problems with a traction compound that we all know has worked forever, the first place to look would either be in contamination of any cutting agent (i.e., toplube in the alcohol... heard of that happening on several occasions), or contamination of the traction compound itself. There is nothing inherently wrong with PJ1/VHT, and it has been proven time and time again to be the best product out there.

Sure Michael, it's the same product. They just changed the name. Well, they also changed the sticky surface we are use to as well! I have also researched everything and know they claim to have just changed the name of VHT to PJ1. They also claim it is the same product and everyone must be cutting the cpompund too much...It's everyone's fault but PJ1. I just hope they find a solution. I hate to think that I will have to put another 100 pounds in the trunk to hook up.

Joe,

I've run at E-Town on Wednesday nights occasionally and Sundays regularly for the past couple of years. Track has been pretty good this year. Wednesday can get a little spotty later in the evening due to the street cars, but that's mostly due lack of time to continually prep with the 10:00 pm curfew. Don't think of the traction problems of the national as a regular occurrence.

You know my car (a footbrake Super Stocker for those of you that don't). I've been consistently going 1.30 - 1.32 in 60 off the footbrake with radials with no problems. It was nearly 90 degrees last Sunday and the car went 1.31 in 60 on the last pass late in the afternoon on cords...

Hope this helps.
