I would not look for the overall experience to be affected significantlly by the addition of the Pro racing.

If anything,it may actually decline as they focus on the Pros like NHRA does.
It was never like that back then as from the way I remember it everybody was treated equal but things could have changed? How has the format been for sportsman racing the last few years?

IHRA no longer has true national events. Some ProAm divisionals have been incorporated into their national events with enhanced contingencies and running the finals with the Pros in front of spectators. They're still divisional points races, but fun, and it's nice to run most of the program earlier in the day without being at the mercy of Pro show schedule and oil-downs. No word if the Sportsman portion will be changed in any way.

Go to http://www.ihra.com/ and click on "PROGRAMS" for a list and more details.

I think they are changing that next year

I LOVE the IHRA experience, matter of fact I let my N license expire a couple years ago. MUCH more racer friendly, usually very well run events, MUCH less traveling. The Pro-Am series is where its at. In div2 we have four doubles. You claim the best five of your first eight. Four trips to run a whole divisional schedule? Love THAT! More like a family atmosphere rather than a corporate atmosphere. Now don't get me wrong, I will renew my N stuff just because there are a couple races I want to hit. INDY is on my bucket list of course.

As for bracket racing the Summit Super Series is hard to beat and the IHRA Div finals smoke the NHRA experience. We went to the IHRA Div Finals at Jackson SC, its permanently one of my favorite races of the year. Ran the wheels off our stuff with multiple gamblers races and the main event. I have reports from the N Div 2 finals in Atlanta this weekend. Doesn't sound too good. One facebook acquaintance of mine loaded up this morning and drove home, only funky thing was, he was STILL IN!!! Going into round 3!! Couldn't take anymore.

I like it because of Pure Stock.
Perfect racing venue for anyone wanting to run a Classic car.
Or for that matter one of the new cars without having to use a roll bar and expensive gas.

As a member of Ihra since 1978 , you won't regret giving them a try. Have raced NHRA and the politics are terrible .

+1

I also like having several events to chose from close. Plus, with lower car counts, running someone heads-up isn't that common unless you're in a popular class. I've never run NHRA Stock Eliminator but have been to MANY as a crew member on a Stocker and not having the Pros to deal with is very nice.

Don't try to compare. They are currently 2 different programs all together. My husband, nephew, daughter and I support both. I have been disappointed by both at times but also totally accepted and for the most part treated fairly by both. Sadly IHRA currently has no payout..I won at Pittsburgh last yr and lost money on the weekend. Of course most of us do not make a living racing but when you win, you expect to come out ahead. I personally like NHRA national events. We have met and made friends with lots of the pro drivers and if your lucky enough to make it to Sunday it's pretty cool to race in front of a crowd during the pro turn around.

Bottom line...I love to race and I will probably do it as close to home as possible where the money is flowing!

i like both also, we've all heard stories from both sides, but all in all i think NHRA and IHRA are great places to race, one of the things i think people missed on was the Sportdman Spectacular races, i can understand the delima of buybacks and Class racing in the same sentence but they paid well worth the trip and i believe IHRA even paid the purse in Texas last year with 5 or 6 Super Stockers thats not bad on their part as far as standing by the racers, but thats done and gone prob.. but as far as compairing the 2 i dont think you really can, unless you go by payout and contengency, it all depends on what that persons opinion is towards the race they went too, no 2 races are ever the same
