What pistons can i run with the vortex heads----i have Mahle dome pistons with my rotating assembly. Is it wise to machine them to fit?

Firebird, an experienced machinist will have a fixture to measure the piston dome/top thickness. If you can machine to the needed dimension and have enough thickness remaining it will be fine to do so.
I "think" it has been said the Vortec is best with very small or no dome. I do not know the min thickness needed but figger someone will help with that.

Firebird, in that situation I expect you will want a piston specific to the head you decide to run.

You should contact Randy or Michael Mans.
They held the record many times in the class with the Bowtie Vortec heads. They also flogged and tested every cylinder head in the market and stayed with the Bowtie Vortec. Do a search were Michael speaks about his experiences with the different heads for SS/CS. |
