Roller Cams in Stock Eliminator?

While we cannot undo past changes... we do have the ability to stop future changes!
As far as lifters are concerned, we toasted a SS engine first rnd of qualifying at Denver. We had a lifter go bad and take out a camshaft. The full extent of the damage has yet to be determined. At best it is a lifter, a reground cam, and a pushrod. At worst...we shall see.

This was a $$$$ lifter. **** Happens. We have not had a stocker lifter go bad since 2007 (knock, knock, knock...knock on wood) and that was a Schubeck lifter which exploded on startup. We have now had two roller lifters go bad in the last 5 years. If your having lifter issues, then fix the issue...don't change the rules! We found our issue for the first SS failure...it was an issue put in place by a now closed engine builder in the Houston, Texas area. The current issue appears to me to be a bearing failure. we will determine whether it is a material failure, or if the failure was caused by some other issue within the engine. Either way, I have complete confidence any future failure will not be for the same reason.

Bill! Why do you have to keep bringing that up! I TOLD you it was an accident!

When a roller lifter that has roller and not a bushing breaks it can get very expensive. Also rollers increase the lifter bore side load and some old blocks may have a problem with breaking lifter bores.

I know this is no help. But back around 1981 McCandless was selling the cam dynamics cheater cam for 25 bucks. I got one and some 40 dollar lifters from the local auto parts store. This was in a 440 and it really woke that thing up. I know things need to evolve, but that was a fun experience with no drawbacks. I ran that thing for a long time and never had any wear issues. Like I said, no help, just seemed a bit simpler at the time.

I know this won’t happen either, but what about putting some sort of valve spring pressure rule into place? Maybe if one didn’t have to, or wasn’t allowed to, run so much spring pressure to keep their valvetrain under control with a radical cam lobe , they won’t wear out camshafts and lifters every other season.

Makes total sense. But the problem is that people would have to be paid to check that. And I'm pretty sure that golfing fees have gone up like everything else so the suits are not gonna go for something like that.

Some how you ,and others think I am speaking for all of Stock Eliminator when in fact as I said on the site many times there are those of us in my circle of friends of witch you and others last time I checked are not included , look I run stock ,and super stock
so there is no need to say I am trying to change Stock as I am in the crowed that voiced my opinion many times over the years right to NHRA at Pomona in person with many others about all the changes over many years with that said ,I have yet to hear any body say oh we will remove any of the changes on my car up to this point ,but there are those on here that are quick to say keep Stock Stock that have all the changes on there cars
