@Henry I don’t think you’ll get much participation at an 1/8 mile track
A few years back I had a discussion with Tim Worner God rest his soul and Frank Aragona Jr. who visited South Mountain. They both spoke of how Div 3 and IHRA races are competed @ 1/8 mile tracks and would be a good venue to introduce to the DIV 1 folks. Many racers travel to the Mountain to test from as far as West as Ohio. I would drive past Islip Drag Strip an 1/8 mile and regret never having set foot on that facility. My Boss use to race there every Sunday and told me your missing out on having a BLAST!!! Tom Felten and Joel Rosen MOTION and many more Long Islanders who now just have a runway to race on. Just my 2 cents

I lived in West Islip for 27 years, about 5 miles from Islip Speedway, I could hear the circle track from my house every weekend. I used to ride my bike with my friends to Islip on Friday nights for the drags back around 68-9 and hitch hike sometimes, we would climb and sit in the trees behind the starting line. I always thought I would race there when I got my license but I raced at Hampton the first time in May 71 then National shortly after and while I wasn't paying attention Islip closed the drag strip because it wasn't safe.
