A consideration for the ECS/SS could be to merge with Rob’s .90 series (if he wants the additional workload and headaches).
@Henry I don’t think you’ll get much participation at an 1/8 mile track

Just spoke with Mountain Mike... He is from Long Island and long time Drag Racer. Mike bought the track in 2014 and fixed it up. It has a growing racing commumity. Located near Carlile and south of Harrisburg PA, easy to get to. It is a nice 1/8th mile facility. Very clean and with nice concessions. Mike saved a failing track that could have become realestate like ATCO. Wants to schedule a race in March and April. Looking for any sponsors to help. Good warm up before the D1 season. Looking at another one after D1 Season is over and aAvoiding Mason Dixon or Cecil Race dates. We can post using the TriState S/SS association going Keeping the other Mike Carrs race series going? Dave & I have talked at length about the future well before Atco closed. I know everyone was heartbroken over the track closing but, nobody spent more time at that track then Dave, I've been there when we have a private T&T for .90 cars and he just showed up because he was bored at home and could hear cars running at the track. Atco was his home and if he said he didn't want to see it continue I think we should all honor his wishes. |

A few years back I had a discussion with Tim Worner God rest his soul and Frank Aragona Jr. who visited South Mountain. They both spoke of how Div 3 and IHRA races are competed @ 1/8 mile tracks and would be a good venue to introduce to the DIV 1 folks. Many racers travel to the Mountain to test from as far as West as Ohio. I would drive past Islip Drag Strip an 1/8 mile and regret never having set foot on that facility. My Boss use to race there every Sunday and told me your missing out on having a BLAST!!! Tom Felten and Joel Rosen MOTION and many more Long Islanders who now just have a runway to race on. Just my 2 cents

I lived in West Islip for 27 years, about 5 miles from Islip Speedway, I could hear the circle track from my house every weekend. I used to ride my bike with my friends to Islip on Friday nights for the drags back around 68-9 and hitch hike sometimes, we would climb and sit in the trees behind the starting line. I always thought I would race there when I got my license but I raced at Hampton the first time in May 71 then National shortly after and while I wasn't paying attention Islip closed the drag strip because it wasn't safe. |
