My car has only been 12.19 @108 with a FAT tune, and nothing dialed in. When I say nothing, I mean tune, clutch, shift points, shocks... I have been fighting clutch issues for some time now. Oh... and I am running on 7+ year old slicks. 11's are a few weeks away! Factory Stock guys have a different set of rules to follow. They are not as limited when it comes to internals as we are weight wise, and they have a lot more options than we do. It has been a few years since I have looked at the NMRA rulesbook though. Rich Groh at RGR does Godfrey's motors.

I've seen inside of most of the factory Stock engines nothing close to a stock eliminator combo all light weight rotating assemblies.

Larry's heads... (I beleive) were untouched as in straight out of a stock car... with 150,000 miles!!! I am sure he will chime in, and clarify this, but "untouched", or fresh, either way, very impressive!!!.

Years ago I ran 11.80s with the H.O. combo, but John Presing has been 11.50s at 113 mph using E7 heads. It's hard to compare NHRA and NMRA cars because NHRA cars get slicks and a better drivetrain, but NMRA cars (I believe) can use flat-top pistons and they can run with a much smaller combustion chamber. Either way it's impressive to run 11s with those heads, especially when there are lots of cars with aftermarket aluminum heads that don't run as well.

Guys,
Thanks for the input here. I had no intention to compare my thrown together engine, just curious....for fun. specs: 150,000 miles from an 89 GT (sitting under the bench since '99) PB Blaster used as the rings were freed, to turn it over. Took a few days of soaking. E7 heads with plenty of carbon B-303 camshaft (retarded 4 degrees) Crane valve spring kit Cobra 1.7 roller rockers Edelbrock Performer RPM 575 cfm Demon Mac 1 5/8" headers air pan sealed to hood McLeod diaphragm clutch GF 5R Transmission, clutchless 3.19 low gear 4.86 gear in the 9 inch launched @ 6200 shifted @ 6000 crossing at 6200 (tongue hanging out) 3025 pounds 28X10.5 Tires 11.69 and 112 mph. This was a hurry up deal. We thought it would run 12.30 or so. Thanks, Larry Geddes |
